How purchases of my pots can change lives in Ethiopia

After visiting Gondar in Ethiopia with friends who support the charity ‘Together We Learn’ I realised that I wanted to become more involved. Small amounts of money raised by supporters here go a long way to improve the living conditions for people in Ethiopia.

This is why I decided to use the proceeds of the sales from my pottery to support the many worthwhile projects I had seen taking place on my visit. Funds raised from my pottery sales have contributed to building and improving homes for underprivileged children in the Gondar area. Combined with other fundraising from the Barrow Upon Soar community, we have reconstructed two dilapidated homes, built extensions for two homes, installed water taps for five families, installed electricity for two families, installed windows and doors in two homes and built a shower and toilet for one family.

About the Charity

Together We Learn is a registered charity that supports children in Ethiopia to strive for a brighter future through access to quality education.

We believe in the power of education to break the cycle of poverty; enabling children to learn, grow and access opportunities. Our projects improve the quality of teaching and facilities within Ethiopian schools and work with communities to overcome obstacles to school attendance.

As part of our mission to enable children to succeed in education, we work with families wherever we can to improve the living environments of children. Adequate housing means security for the child, a safe place to live and a place they can study and do homework.

Many of our sponsored families live in very basic accommodation with few, if any, basic conveniences. We facilitate the construction of new homes, improve existing homes, install taps and electricity and provide bedding and other furniture. These improvements can reduce living costs and make homes healthier, safer and happier places to live.
